Szayel Aporro Granz, more commonly and simply known as Szayel, is an Arrancar and the Octava (Eighth) Espada in Sosuke Aizen's Arrancar Army.
Appearance[]
Szayel has shoulder-length pink hair and amber eyes. His Hollow mask remnants resemble rectangular-framed glasses, giving him a scholarly appearance. The location of his Espada tattoo is unknown, and while his Hollow hole has never been seen, it was confirmed to be located where his private parts would be.
Unlike most of the Espada, Szayel wears a long shirt that covers his entire torso up to the top of his neck. He has three stripes on his uniform, each starting at his collar with one running to the left side of his chest, one to the right side of his chest, and one down the middle. He wears the regular pants with a slight length taken away. He also wears white gloves. His face is the only part of his body that is exposed in this uniform.
Personality[]
Szayel is a meticulous intellectual and an archetypical mad scientist, seeing those around him as test subjects rather than living things.
Szayel is highly narcissistic, rude, analytical, sadistic, and perverse, making rather disturbing comments about his opponents right in front of them, much to their disgust/discomfort. A number of these comments are somewhat sexual in nature; the fact that his Hollow hole is located at his crotch probably doesn't help much. He is also very flamboyant and sees himself as an actor, treating battles like theatrical performances.
Above all else, Szayel is highly arrogant, believing himself to be a perfect being. He is also a coward, using underhanded means to gain advantage in battle such as hostage-taking and using "voodoo" to immobilize or kill his opponents instead of fighting them head on.
Biography[]
Szayel's past is unknown, like all Arrancar. At some point, he met Sosuke Aizen and was turned into an Arrancar by the latter, becoming his servant in the process. However, because of his low power level, Szayel was initially a member of the Numeros until he helped then Octava (Eighth) Espada Nnoitra Jiruga strip then Tercera (Third) Espada Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck and her Fraccion of their powers and leave them to die in the desert of Hueco Mundo. Some time later, Szayel was promoted to the position of Octava Espada, while Nnoitra became the Quinto (Fifth) Espada. He built a laboratory and created artificial Fraccion.
